Combinaison de ses nombreux tubes et reprises surprenantes

Le 1er juin 2012, Macy Gray revient présenter sa soul organique à l'Ancienne Belgique. Son dernier passage à l'AB remonte au 28 novembre 2010. Elle y a donné un concert enflammé où elle a interprété une série de ses tubes mais aussi quelques reprises : « Creep » de Radiohead, « Wake Up » d'Arcade Fire et « Nothing Else Matters » de Metallica.
Le 1er juin, elle présentera ses hits et une sélection de titres de « Covered », son dernier opus, à paraître le 27 mars. Comme son nom l'indique, cet album contient un certain nombre de reprises, enregistrées avec son producteur, Hal Willner (connu pour sa collaboration avec Marianne Faithfull et Lou Reed).
Les fans de Macy savent à quoi s'attendre : une collection d'interprétations personnelles de morceaux extrêmement complexes. En plus des titres qu'elle a chantés lors de sa précédente tournée, « Here Comes The Rain Again » (Eurythmics), une version de « Teenagers » (My Chemical Romance) dont le texte a été adapté, « Maps » (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), « Smoke Two Joints » (The Toyes) et « Love Lockdown » (Kanye West) seront aussi à l'honneur. Pour ces reprises, Macy Gray s'est inspirée de la façon unique dont Nina Simone réinterprétait à l'époque les œuvres des autres.
La carrière de Macy a démarré sur les chapeaux de roue en 1999, après la sortie de « On How Life is » (qui contenait l'énorme tube « I Try »). Depuis lors, ses albums se sont écoulés à plusieurs millions d'exemplaires et elle est l'heureuse propriétaire de plusieurs Grammy, MTV et BRIT Awards.
En 2010, Macy Gray a sorti un album ironiquement appelé « The Sellout ». Une collection de morceaux très intéressants sur le plan personnel (et musical), débordant de soul, de new wave des eighties et de glam (rock). Deux ans plus tard, il est temps pour Macy Gray d'écrire un nouveau chapitre de sa passionnante carrière.
