Entre ambient et sons des années 80, M83 fait des merveilles
Sorti de lâimagination de deux Ă©tudiants français passionnĂ©s de musique Ă©lectro et de rock, M83 voit le jour en 2001 avec la sortie de leur premier album homonyme. Anthony Gonzalez et Nicolas Fromageau, impressionnent par leur talent. Le mĂ©lange dâĂ©lectro vaporeuse, de synthĂ©, de voix murmurĂ©es et de guitares bien lourdes interpelle. Le duo sortira un deuxiĂšme album, deux ans plus tard, « Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts », une rĂ©vĂ©lation. EncensĂ© par la critique, plĂ©biscitĂ© par le public, lâalbum leur offre une place de choix sur lâĂ©chiquier musical. Câest Ă ce moment que Nicolas dĂ©cide de quitter le groupe. DĂ©sormais seul aux commandes, Anthony impose son style avec autoritĂ©.
Entre nostalgie et ambiances sombres il sortira « Digital Shades Vol1 » (2007) et « Saturday=Youth » (2008), deux albums qui flirtent entre ambient atmosphĂ©rique et abrasive et les sons des annĂ©es â80, sorte dâhommage Ă des artistes tels que Kate Bush et Jean-Michel Jarre. Envie dâĂ©voluer, soif dâexpĂ©rience, Anthony effectue un tournant dans sa carriĂšre quand, en 2010, il dĂ©cide de sâinstaller Ă Los Angeles. En 2011, lâartiste sâouvre de nouveaux horizons avec son dernier album en date, lâexplosif « Hurry Up, We're Dreaming! ». Un double album adorĂ© par la presse et le public, M83 franchit un cap et balaie toutes ses influences, de la dream pop au shoegaze Ă©pique. Un disque perçu par Gonzalez comme un reflet de sa vie et un condensĂ© de sa musique. PortĂ© par les dantesques « Midnight City » et « Reunion » deux mĂ©ga tubes qui tournent en boucle sur les ondes. Câest un tout nouveau monde qui sâouvre Ă M83, qui a depuis lors tournĂ© avec Kings Of Leon, The Killers et Depeche Mode. Co-produit par Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, NIN, The Mars Volta) et mixĂ© par Tony Hoffer (Air, The Kooks), lâalbum offre aussi, derriĂšre la grandiloquence de certains titres, de nombreux passages touchants. Lâartiste a mĂ»ri et câest dâailleurs investi dâune nouvelle confiance en sa musique quâAnthony parcourt aujourdâhui les salles et les festivals du monde entier (dont Rock Werchter 2012) avec un succĂšs toujours plus grand. AprĂšs un passage mĂ©morable aux Ardentes dĂ©but juillet, Anthony Gonzalez annonce son retour chez nous mais en salle cette fois.
