Raw and retro r&b sound
On les entend dire « Ba Da Ba Da Ba Da, Badiya Ba Da Ba Da Ba Da, Badiya Whoo Hoo Hooooo Hoo Hoooo... ». Kings Go Forth, c'est de fait « un son r&b rĂȘche et rĂ©tro... des harmonies Ă©poustouflantes... des backbeats funky, des cuivres retentissants et une production lo-fi naturaliste ». De la soul donc, et du funk ! Et du fun ! Car les Kings Go Forth tirent leur nom d'un film qu'ils n'ont peut-ĂȘtre mĂȘme pas vu. Quant Ă leur brillant et trĂ©pidant premier album, il s'intitule 'The Outsiders Are Back' et est paru sur le label Luaka Bop de David Byrne (distribuĂ© chez nous par Bertus).
On ose espérer que vous avez déjà entendu le single 'One Day' sur votre radio préférée. Vous a-t-il fait penser à Curtis Mayfield et à d'autres voix et arrangements légendaires ? Le chanteur s'appelle ici Black Wolf et il s'est apparemment rendu, un beau jour, chez le disquaire vintage Andy Noble, le leader du groupe.
On notera encore que la pochette a Ă©tĂ© rĂ©alisĂ©e par un certain Mingering Mike dont c'Ă©tait, du reste, la premiĂšre vĂ©ritable pochette (jusque lĂ , il avait essentiellement rĂ©alisĂ© des visuels imaginaires pour de faux disques en carton, avec mĂȘme de faux sillons !).
Mesdames et messieurs, les Kings Go Forth nous viennent tout droit de Milwaukee, aux USA, pour mettre l'ambiance dans la chaleur moite de l'ABClub ! ApprĂȘtez-vous Ă suer !
La premiĂšre partie sera belge mais de taille avec la Bruxelloise LoumĂšn : une voix soul entre jazz, pop et Ă©lectro, avec un rĂ©pertoire qui se veut toujours plus personnel. Si la demoiselle voue un respect amplement mĂ©ritĂ© Ă Gil Scott-Heron, il lui arrive aussi de reprendre le âI'm Coming Outâ de Nile Rodgers. Vous l'avez d'ailleurs peut-ĂȘtre dĂ©jĂ entendue aux cĂŽtĂ©s d'UnderGroov' ou dans de chouettes cafĂ©s comme le Stuk ou le Belga.
