Ces cinq Anglais se sont rencontrés au début des années '90, alors qu'ils fréquentaient le même collège à Manchester. Guy Garvey, Richard Jupp, Craig Potter, Mark Potter et Pete Turner ont très vite fait d'unir leurs talents dans leur passion commune, la musique. Après plusieurs années de préparation et de concerts, ils éveillent l'intérêt du public et de la critique avec une première série de 3 EP's.
Il faudra pourtant attendre jusqu'en 2001 pour la sortie de leur premier album studio 'Asleep in the Back'. Le succès est immédiat et l'album se voit couronné par le très prestigieux Mercury Prize avant de devenir un immense succès aux Etats-Unis. Suivront 'Cast of Thousands' en 2002 et surtout 'Leaders of the Free World' en 2005, qui élèvent le groupe au rang de valeur sûre de la scène anglaise.
Elbow nous présente aujourd'hui un quatrième opus, 'The Seldom Seen Kid'. Onze titres forts et magnifiques, au service de la voix toujours aussi impressionnante de Guy Garvey, qui a fait entre-temps une apparition sur le dernier album de dEUS. Produit par Craig Potter, ce nouvel album est le fruit de deux ans d'un travail acharné au studio Blueprint de Salford. Elbow démontre une nouvelle fois une grande capacité d'innovation et de lyrisme. Après un passage très attendu ce samedi au Pukkelpop, Elbow vous donne rendez-vous pour un concert à l'Ancienne Belgique le 11 novembre prochain, à voir absolument.
