L'un des fers de lance de la scène hip-hop de Minneapolis
‘No Kings’ est le deuxième opus du collectif hip-hop Doomtree qui est surtout connu pour ses lives explosifs et son énergique mentalité DIY. Originaires de Minneapolis, ils transgressent les règles du genre et offrent, à l'instar de leurs concitoyens du label Rhymesayers, un brassin intelligent et contemporain.
Les sept membres de Doomtree (P.O.S., Dessa, Sims, Cecil Otter, Mike Mictlan, Lazerbeak et Paper Tiger) mènent également de front de belles carrières solo que suivent de près d'éminents journaux et magazines comme The New York Times, Spin ou le Rolling Stone. Lorsqu'ils montent sur scène, les enfers se déchaînent grâce à des productions où se côtoient punk, indie rock et musique expérimentale. Le successeur de leur brillant ‘False Hopes XV’ porte le titre de ‘No Kings’ car Doomtree appelle à la rébellion et au respect. There are no kings in Minneapolis.
Ce concert s'inscrit dans le cadre du projet ‘Minneapolis, Mon Amour’ que l'AB a mis sur pied pour la saison 2011-2012. Cette série de concerts dédiée au patrimoine musical de la métropole américaine nous permet de célébrer comme il se doit les 30 ans de ‘Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash’, le premier opus du groupe de rock américain The Replacements. L'AB s'est emparé de ce véritable pilier de l'histoire du rock pour, entre autres, présenter les concerts des vétérans The Jayhawks et Grant Hart, et des nouveaux venus comme Howler et Dark Dark Dark, en plus de deux éminents crews hip-hop : Rhymesayers et les précités Doomtree.
