On est heureux de pouvoir enfin accueillir Ă l'AB le bassiste, chanteur, compositeur et arrangeur israĂ©lien Avishai Cohen. NĂ© en IsraĂ«l, Cohen Ă©migre Ă New York alors qu'il est encore adolescent. Il commence trĂšs tĂŽt Ă s'Ă©clater au piano mais lui prĂ©fĂšre rapidement la basse. Son admiration pour le bassiste lĂ©gendaire Jaco Pastorius n'y est certainement pas Ă©trangĂšre. Pour vivre, il joue Ă NYC dans des groupes de latin jazz. C'est ainsi qu'il atterrit au sein du trio du pianiste Danilo Perez. Entre 96 et 03, il rejoint le trio et le sextuor de Chick Corea. Sous son aile (et sur son label), Cohen sort ses premiers albums en tant que leader. Depuis 03, Cohen dirige son propre Avishai Cohen trio. Dans l'intervalle, il joue Ă©galement aux cĂŽtĂ©s de sommitĂ©s comme Herbie Hancock, Roy Hargrove et mĂȘme Alicia Keys. En 05, Cohen retourne dans son pays d'origine. On ne sera dĂšs lors pas Ă©tonnĂ© d'entendre que ses albums les plus rĂ©cents sont de plus en plus influencĂ©s par ses origines bigarrĂ©es : « la culture sĂ©farade de sa mĂšre et les origines juives est-europĂ©ennes de son pĂšre. Ses racines juives, ses expĂ©riences new-yorkaises et le regain d'exposition de l'actualitĂ© israĂ©lienne » (VPRO). Son dernier album paru en 09, intitulĂ© 'Aurore', est sorti sur le cĂ©lĂšbre label Blue Note. Son nouvel opus verra le jour dĂ©but 2011 et c'est avec son quartette qu'il se produira Ă l'AB.
