Celebrate the resilience of the black community
Through concert, talks, performances, readings and films, Black History Month hopes to change how we look at the history as well as the future of the black community.
Black History Month Belgium was established in 2017 by Mohamed Barrie and Aminata Ndow. It had already existed for a while in the United States: In February, they always commemorate significant people and events in the history of the African diaspora. Here, March celebrates the resilience of black communities, through a different theme each time.
Come dance and learn
Since 2021, AB has been supporting this initiative with its own strength: music. We offer our stage to interesting black artists and organise talks that bring attention to the Black History Month’s theme that year. That way, we as an organisation also continue to learn!

AB and Black History Month share a similar mission: to preserve and promote cultural diversity and to safeguard the right to culture for all in our society.
AB and Black History Month share a similar mission: to preserve and promote cultural diversity and to safeguard the right to culture for all in our society. So we at AB are pleased to be able to fully support Black History Month through a musical programme and bring these themes to the attention of a wider audience, as well as within our internal operations.
Everyone is welcome during our Black History Month events. There is an atmosphere of openness and connection. We pass the microphone to voices that are sometimes too little heard. When in fact, it’s as the Radio 1 slogan so simply but correctly puts it, “Everything begins with listening.” Come and experience it for yourself!
