Because Youth l’AB proved to be a vibrant, creative and bubbling experiment last year, AB is simply organising this project again in 2023.
The concept: 5 young people from Brussels are taken in and immersed in the workings of AB, to get to know all the ins and outs of a house of culture.
So this year, once again, 5 exceptional young people were selected for our laboratory. ‘A musical Brusselian-heart in the right place’ was the most important criteria. Last year’s ‘Youth LABbers’ will now guide the newbies, as accomplished sibs should. After all, a lab can lead to unexpected and exciting twists. BOOM!
We’re keen to start again, our lab is broadening the AB horizons and this breath of fresh air is pleasant. As a matter of fact, this collaboration provides a critical look at our day-to-day operations.
This year too, the youngsters will organise their own event from start to finish. Last year’s Essence Festival was a hit. Wondering what this year will be like? Follow our Youth l’ABbers on Instagram .

“Ik zou graag deel willen uit maken van het Youth l’AB- team omdat muziek heel belangrijk is voor mij. Ik hou ervan om zoveel mogelijk muziekgenres en artiesten te ontdekken. Momenteel ben ik een audiovisuele studie aan het volgen, mijn droom is dan ook om deze 2 interesses met elkaar te verweven (filmpjes maken van concerten/festivals, regie/productie doen, …) 😃”
Leila (23)
“Ik ben Leila. Ik ben 23 jaar en geboren in Brussel. Vorig jaar heb ik mijn master in de vrije kunsten behaald en momenteel ben ik aan een nieuwe bachelor film begonnen. Naast kunst is muziek een grote passie. Ik zing en speel piano, maar dat is voorlopig nog maar een hobby. Youth l’AB lijkt me een geweldige ervaring om van allerlei soorten facetten van de muziekwereld te proeven en om te ontdekken wat mij het beste ligt.”

“Je m'appelle Alexis Zounguere Sokambi, je suis artiste pluridisciplinaire et architecte. Pour moi l'aventure Youth ‘AB est l'opportunité de découvrir le fonctionnement de l'industrie culturel. Ainsi je pourrai me faire des contacts et acquérir de nouvelles compétences.”
Asante (21)
“Hi, I’m Asante aka All-Turn. I’m a 21 year old artist based in Brussels, who’s heavily influenced by hiphop. I decided to join Youth l’AB to get closer to the ‘behind the scenes’ of the music world. I want to be able to carry myself as a unique force in the scene that’s capable of anything from event planning, promotion, sound engineering so I can incorporate that in my own workflow!”
Furio (22)
“My name is Furyo, I am a frontman for an upcoming Alt-Rock band here in Brussels called Nemode. I also produce in the underground hip-hop scene. I hope I will walk away from this experience a more informed artist about the inner workings of the music industry and the steps one can take to advance his / her career.”
Jarno(22), Mariam(25), Angela(22), Anne(23) and Albin(19) are also back in the mix. What do you hope to achieve this year?
Jarno
Wat ik hoop om uit dit jaar uit Youth l’AB te halen is om meer connecties te leggen en kansen te grijpen die zich anders niet voordoen. Maar ik wil ook de nieuwe generatie zoveel mogelijk begeleiden waar nodig en steeds te hulp staan!”
Albin
“Pour cette nouvelle édition, je m'attends à découvrir des nouvelles facettes de l'évènementiel ainsi que de la musique, autant de l'AB que de la nouvelle Team 💪 ! De plus, ESSENCE m'ayant donné l'énergie de me lancer dans la musique, j'espère pouvoir à présent me perfectionner et me produire dans des évènements grâce aux apports du projet.”

“I'm really excited to get back into it and work behind the scenes with the AB team again. I can't wait to collaborate with the new YLabbers and create new projects with them. I also want to get back up on stage and create more content.”

“This season I want to be more hands-on in the technical part of music, and also on the business aspect. My end goal is to have an overview of everything that englobes AB and the industry. I’m also very excited to work with the new members. I’m happy that good energy flows through the group!”
Mariam
“I want to stream a YOUTH l’AB podcast/live stream program (on YT or Twitch) that puts Belgian artist in light (independent de préférence sinon ceux signé dans un label belge sinon les belges qui ont percé à l’international). There are other goals but the same as last year just more in depth by brining projects forward where we already worked on but going to develop with AB Team to accomplish it.”
