At 13.9 degrees, 31 December 2021 was the warmest winter day ever. Ideal weather to get together outside on the Jo Cox Square behind AB to celebrate the end of the year. The colleagues from AB and Hobo where prepared with alcohol-free glühwein and luxury meal boxes to provide to at least 250 roofless & homeless people with a warm New Years Eve.
Every meal box that remained at the end of evening found its way to the Maximilian Park and the Church of St. John the Baptist at the Béguinage. Nothing went to waste.
However, you gave much more: every € extra that was collected will be used by Hobo over the coming year to develop their digital space so that roofless & homeless people can get access to the internet.
“ We built a party tent, chose good music, and filled the square with warm wishes that 2022 would be better. There was dancing and singing under falling confetti from popped balloons. We cursed Corona but enjoyed each other’s company. ” Eline from AB
“ Each box was filled with delicious surprises. Visitors chose from an Indian curry with chicken, a vegetarian curry or a bouillabaisse with 3 sorts of fish. In each package there was also a dessert and a reusable thermos. ” Tom from Hobo
Are you wondering what the difference between a roofless and a homeless person is? We are happy to explain it to you.
Roofless people have no roof over their heads except what the streets offer them. Homeless people have found their way to a shelter, or survive on their own by e.g. alternating between sleeping on friends’ couches, in shelters and squats. Sometimes they have recently found a place to live but they still live below the poverty line. This whole range of people are the ones Hobo, AB and you have supported by purchasing a meal.
Thank you for everything!
