Last month a number of promising black Belgian artists took over AB’s stage, façade, podcast and social media as a part of Black History Month Belgium. AB provided the artistic support.
Rik De Bruycker and Mohamed Barrie (BHM) gave the start signal for the month with a podcast episode of Guestlist. The guests were Jana Tricot and K1D. There was also a very inspiring BHM x AB Talk about the meaning of ‘Black Music’ with Charlotte Adigéry, Nabou, Isabelle Kabatu and Zap Mama. We closed the month musically with shows by April Maey, Badi, Nanakill, IKRAAAN, Sunday Rose and ESINAM (livestreams).
Our artistic programme didn’t stop at music. Brussels’ Agneskena created a series of mini-documentaries about the musical guests as a part of BHM x AB. Behind the scenes, talented photographer Rami Hara made portraits of the artists as well as concert photos. AB’s facade was adorned by the six-part artwork of young artist Kenny Mala Ngombe. He brought to light the importance of the influence of forefathers.
