In October 2011, AB initiated a tribute to the musical heroes of the North American city Minneapolis. As, aside from well-knowns like Prince, this far-lying city contains many more musical highlights, and also a rich musical history.
AB made it clear that - since The Replacements, Soul Asylum en Hüsker Dü - the city has had much more to offer... staging concerts by old-hands like The Jayhawks and Grant Hart, young guns Dark Dark Dark and Howler, hip-hop collectives Rhymesayers and Doomtree. What's more, a number of labels and photographers were involved via exhibitions.
Not surprising then that Minneapolis was just recently voted as having the second best music scene (outside of NYC, LA and Nashville) by http://livability.com (Discover America's Best Places to Live).
So on Sunday 6 May we'll be rounding off with hip-hop collective DOOMTREE, best known for their explosive live shows and their energetic DIY mentality. The 7 members of Doomtree (P.O.S., Dessa, Sims, Cecil Otter, Mike Mictlan, Lazerbeak and Paper Tiger) also maintain super solo-careers that are closely followed by prominent press like The New York Times, Spin and Rolling Stone. All hell breaks loose when they mount the stage together, not in the least due to their performances that are union of punk, indie-rock and experiment. The successor to their fine ‘False Hopes XV’ received the title ‘No Kings’ because Doomtree summons rebellion and respect. There are no kings in Minneapolis.
The final part of Minneapolis, Mon Amour.
