Of Polish origin, living in Exeter (UK), but born in Belgium. In the ’80s, Christophe Szpajdel became fascinated with the logos of bands like Venom, Possessed and Kreator.
A few years later, he started designing himself – for bands he knew – and so that was how, in the early ’90s, he came into contact with a number of main players from the 2nd wave of black metal. Soon he was designing logos for most of those bands and had become a well-known figure in the metal underground.
Fast Forward to 2010. After Christophe had spent many years providing many thousands of bands with a unique logo, German publisher Gestalten (known for its very fine publications on design, art and architecture) put out Lord Of The Logo’s. It is a book bundling a few thousand of Szpajdel’s logos and it gives a fine overview of his oeuvre.
Yet again, the multiplicity of his work is remarkable and we can clearly see influences of Art Nouveau, Gothic, nature (Szpajdel studied biology and forest management), eastern culture,…
