On 03.05 at AB BOX: SONS! From school mates to skate buddies to shredding riffs together in the rehearsal room: the guys from SONS are no strangers to each other. When they became one of the three winners of De Nieuwe Lichting in 2018, their garage-rock project took off and they got the chance to play at Rock Werchter and countless other big festivals. Their club tour this fall is completely sold out and in the spring of 2019 we will be looking forward to their debut album.
AB: What do you do in everyday life?
We all have an everyday job, for example: Robin is graphic designer
AB: How old are you?
We are aged between 25 and 27
AB: Who/What is your biggest musical influence?
That varies greatly, from older bands and music like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Bad Brains and Minor Threat but definitely also contemporary bands like Ty Segall, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard and Thee Oh Sees.
AB: Do you come to AB and/or Brussels often?
For sure. We’ve already seen many legendary shows or acts here and we don’t come to Brussels often enough really… it’s a great city.
AB: What are you expecting of your show in AB?
That it’ll be a big fat dirty party with lots of sweat, mosh pits and everyone in the air. We come to present our new album and that can’t be done gently.
AB: Are there special things listed on your rider?
That’s all quite reasonable... Rum, beer and as – of late – scratchy tickets for the lottery. The goal is to be able to purchase AB InBEV.
AB: What are you musical ambitions?
To play live a lot and we’re aiming for foreign soil too: this summer we’ll be heading to Iceland, Switzerland, Germany, The Netherlands and hopefully even more countries! Actually, there’s already quite some desire to start thinking about a second album. The barrel isn’t empty yet.
AB: What was the best concert ever you ever played yourself and that of another band?
That is actually difficult to pin on 1 show, as small sweaty shows are epic but big stages are too, of course. Our release in Cafee Cabron was top, The Zwarte Ruiter in Den Haag, Lokerse Feesten and of course we’ll never forget the main stage at Rock Werchter.
Meatbodies in the Botanique did a lot for us. When we heard that wall of sound we knew that was what we wanted to do ourselves.
