To get to know our artists even better, we serve them a few simple but not unimportant questions. Meet run SOFA, 3.0 era for the post-punk duo from Charleroi.
run SOFA has already gone through different phases. What started as psychedelic rock has more recently evolved into raw post-punk that are up to par with their sources of inspiration. Who? The likes of Show Me The Body, Sleaford Mods or Slint.
They play at AB on 27.05 and you can buy tickets HERE.
What do you do in daily life?
A: I manage a creative space for artists.
J: I’m a full-time musician. I mostly work on my music and my projects.
Who is/are your greatest musical influences?
A: EVERYTHING! Ha-ha. To tell you the truth, lately I’ve mainly drawn my inspiration more from people in my everyday life than from other music groups. But having said that, it was Kurt Cobain and the grunge movement who first made me want to pick up a guitar and sing.
J: I think I’m most inspired by music genres that allow the greatest level of freedom, such as improvised music, free jazz, noise music and certain types of electronic music.
What is your favourite place?
A: At home, with my girlfriend and my cat.
J: On stage, and travelling to go someplace!
What are your musical ambitions?
A: I want to find the right words, the right mood to express myself. That’s all I really care about.
J: Nurture my creative spirit, be as true to myself as possible, become one with my musical expression.
What is your favourite instrument?
A: It depends on who’s playing!
J: The guitar of course!… Actually, I agree with Antoine on that one!
Do you come to AB and Brussels often?
A: Yes. I saw some incredible artists there, such as Mbongwana Star, Shabazz Palaces and King Krule.
J: Not very often, but I was lucky to go to some great concerts… Pat Metheny, Thom Yorke, Patrick Watson, Jpegmafia… memorable moments.
What are you expecting from your show at AB?
A: To have fun with my friends on stage and feel a connection with the audience.
J: Have fun together.
Are there special requests on your rider?
A: Not really, but we should add some makeup remover, ha-ha.
J: A bottle of whisky!
What is the best concert you ever saw?
A: I can think of many, but I guess if I had to choose, I’d say Shame with whom I shared the bill at the 2019 Loftas Fest in Vilnius.
J: Yeah, that concert was incredible. The Short Paris concert was amazing too. Nobody had heard about them, and it took us a while to understand their vibe… once we stopped thinking it through, we were in! About ten years ago, I was also blown away by Paul McCartney. He played non-stop for three hours. A life lesson!
What is the next concert you will go to yourself?
A: I can’t wait to see Sleaford Mods in April!!
J: That’s definitely it for me too.
What is your favourite food?
A: A traditional dish from Calabria called pasta e fagioli. Otherwise, a big serving of chips, ha‑ha.
J: I don’t really have one. I like having dishes that I don’t know how to cook (Indian, Ethiopian, Thai, etc.).
What impact did corona have on your creativity?
A: Ironically, it helped free me from many things. I think it shows in our new album.
J: It didn’t affect my creativity. On the contrary, I feel like I have more things to say, to sometimes cry out loud.
Do you have anything important you would like to mention?
A: It’s all in our music. That’s the truth.
J: I agree.
