With the exception of the Belgian TaxiWars or Chicago-resident artists such as Angel Bat Dawid and Ethnic Heritage Ensemble, the common theme of this autumn’s entire jazz programme is the contemporary London jazz scene.
There’s a simple reason behind this. This is a vibrant, exciting and innovative jazz scene. Moreover, their sound contains the DNA of the London dance scene, and in it you will hear the heartbeats of urban music, R&B and jungle. Do you remember the acid jazz scene of the early ’90s that brought jazz back into the spotlight? Simply click and drag that genre straight into your Recycle Bin and delete it forever. Ezra Collective, Theon Cross, Joe Armon-Jones and Ill Considered are the real shit. Believe us.
