Each month in our Guestlist podcast, StuBru presenter Rik De Bruycker explores what goes on behind the scenes in AB.

In this episode of Guestlist we look for an answer to the question: "Has new wave returned or never left?". Rik De Bruycker talks with Marcel Vanthilt and Whispering Sons about then and now. WS will also present their new record “Several Others”, they talk about new wave as inspiration, their own label "Sentimental" and the sometimes stifling rules of a music scene.

In the UK, post-punk bands like Shame, Idles, Sleaford Mods, ... are harking back to the sound of the 80s out of frustration about Brexit. A new/cold wave revival is also underway in the Benelux with groups such as Dollkraut, De Ambassade, Victor De Roo and De Nooit Moede and Whispering Sons.

Marcel Vanthilt was at the forefront of the 1980s and looks back on the early days of punk and new wave in Brussels. He talks to Rik about TC Matic, the rise of the Belpop, free radio and gothic in the retirement home.

For the “MishMash” column, Rik sends Lisbeth Gruwez to Pukkelpop and we hear what Jaouad thought of “Chou” by Chassol.
