On Monday 29 November, five extremely interesting speakers take part in a discussion of cancel culture in the music world. AB and KU Leuven bring a philosopher, a musician, a Professor of International Human Rights Law, a music coordinator and the managing director of AB together in the AB Club.
Radio 1 presenter Korneel De Clercq is there to keep the conversation on track.

Jenny Janssens
Jenny is a philosopher of ‘Contemporary Challenges’ and a business ethicist, program creator (in the FutureLab of the Tilburg Library LocHal), and co-founder of No Thanks! (a platform that creates awareness around intimidation at concerts and festivals). She wrote her master’s thesis on Cancel Culture. Therein, amongst other things, she sought an answer to the question: ‘What do we do with the work produced by immoral artists?’
Gerrit Kerremans
Gerrit Has been Head of Music at the VRT for 14 years. He knows as no other the DNA of the various radio stations and their audiences. An important part of his job is to keep the playlists of the various stations diverse and relevant. This also involves making sensitive choices regarding playing music by cancelled artists.
Aafke Romeijn
Aafke is a musician, writer, and journalist. She is also a board member of the Professional Association for Authors-Musicians and she represents the interests of European pop musicians in the ECSA. The uncrowned queen of Dutch electro-pop speaks openly in her columns about the programming of works by cancelled artists.
Koen Lemmens
Koen is Professor of International Human Rights, Constitutional Law, and Media Law at KU Leuven. He teaches Press Law at the VUB and is the Belgian director of the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC) in Venice. He is also a lawyer at the Brussels Bar, specialising in procedures for the European Court of Human Rights.
Tom Bonte
Tom has been the General Manager of AB since September 2020. Prior to that, he spent nine years at the helm of Brussels’ multi-disciplinary centre for arts Beursschouwburg. Before that, he was active as a programmer at Vooruit in Ghent and as assistant programmer at deSingel in Antwerp. Tom is also chairman of the board of directors for the Brussels Kunstenoverleg and a member of the board of directors for OKO (Overleg Kunstenorganisaties, the industry federation for the arts).
Moderator: Korneel De Clercq
Since September 2021, you have been hearing Korneel’s captivating radio voice most often in Classic Stories on Radio 1. Prior to that, he presented Wonderland, Watskeburt?!, Braakland, and Classics on that same radio station for many years. When he’s not sitting in the radio studio, he’s probably hosting a conversation somewhere, presenting a festival, reading voice-overs, or playing DJ.
