AB will take part in the Great Brussel Helpt Spaghetti Dinner again this year. Together with Mabelle, we will conjure delicious spaghetti from our magical cooking pots on November 26. Mabelle will cook and the AB team will serve.
Brussel Helpt is BRUZZ's annual solidarity action, in cooperation with the Brussels community centres. This year we support Kinumai, an initiative that helps people with a disability to discover their city.
For only €10 you can eat a spaghetti and the income goes integrally to Kinumai. There are 3 shifts.
So what is Kinumai?
The non-profit organisation was founded in 2020 by two friends. Geert Palmers and David Seffer noticed that only a few locations in Brussels were wheelchair friendly. "And yet the location can often be made accessible with a few relatively simple changes," says Seffer, who himself uses a wheelchair. "We try to convince restaurants and other businesses to use a simple solution such as a ramp. It is mobile and can be attached to the threshold when needed."
Besides offering and promoting ramps, Kinumai wants to map out a network of accessible toilets. "We want to show where there are toilets that are wheelchair accessible, for example those in museums or in a rare bar or restaurant. We also want to convince these businesses to admit wheelchair users, even if they don't consume anything there."
