In 2012, 128 young people between the ages of 18 and 24 were the victim of a fatal traffic accident. The BIVV, in collaboration with Ouders van Verongelukte Kinderen and Ozark Henry, has launched a new awareness campaign to tackle the issue. This emotional campaign centres around the song â21 grams shortâ that makes use of existing audio- and video-fragments of two young accident victims, fragments kept by their parents and friends. The song gives the youths who perished a voice again, for a âlast messageâ. This message is intended to make young people aware of what they themselves can do to avoid repeating the situations experienced by those close to Kevin and Maxime.
The title refers to the film « 21 grams », the favourite film of one of two young guys (in this film, 21 grams was the weight of the soul that goes to heaven when someone dies). The voices and images used in the clip are those of Kevin and Maxime, two young men who died in a car accident. Ozark Henry was inspired for the song â21 grams shortâ by conversations with their families and friends.
