The youngest programmer (ever) in AB is called Astrid De Sterck. 1 April ’17 was no joke for her, as that was her first official day at work here. Before that, Astrid had already done an internship in the Beursschouwburg, and she also had work experience behind the scenes of the Klara Festival. Her musical tastes are extremely varied. She loves the experimental electronica of Arca and Yves Tumor, amongst others, as well as hip-hop à la Tyler The Creator, Mykki Blanco, Kate Tempest but also Nick Cave, Amenra, Kamasi Washington, … .

04/04 – 08/04 BRDCST festival with:
- Bendik Giske
This Norwegian saxophonist and performer combines free jazz with the repetitivity of techno. His sound reminds strongly of Colin Stetson.
- Obonjayar
This London rapper with Nigerian roots handles politics, spirituality, spoken word and soul in his sound. He serves up the hip-hop of the future.
- Refree
This Spanish musician is one of the pioneers of the ‘new flamenco’ movement. He blends jazz and flamenco with field recordings and restrained electronica.
01/05: Braindance: Eartheater + Mun Sing
‘IRISIRI’ by Eartheater is, for me, one of the strongest releases of 2018. A wonderful album on which classical composition and fierce, reckless electro are coated with a poetic whispering and her unbelievable voice (with which she can cover 3 octaves, no less!). The New York musician and choreographer explores the boundaries of music with her remarkable sound.
Aside from that, I am very curious to see Mun Sing at work. The solo project of Harry Wright from Giant Swan.
14/06: Kevin Morby!
Kevin Morby has become one of the ring-leaders of folk and Americana singer-songwriters and is named in the same breath as Courtney Barnett, Steve Gunn and Kurt Vile.
His candid, refined sound gets me every time. I’m looking forward to the new album!
