All due respect for Giant Sand-frontman Howe Gelb who was asked to leave his regular backing band at home and surround himself with eight-piece band The Colorist.
The Colorist – pivoting around Aarich Jespers and Kobe Proesmans – still stylishly reworks the oeuvres of others with self-made instruments. To describe The Colorist as a sort of ‘live-remix-upfront-backing band’ doesn’t actually sound so crazy. Surprising and yet familiar.
After the ensemble previously joined forces with Emiliana Torrini (Iceland), Cibelle (Brazil), Lisa Hannigan (Ireland), Sumie Nagano (Sweden) and citizen-of-the-world Gabriel Rios, it is now the turn of Giant Sand-frontman Howe Gelb.
This resulted in the LP ‘Not on the map’. The reviews already have us eagerly awaiting the Howe Gelb & The Colorist concert on Tuesday 16 November. Tickets can be ordered via this link.
