Nowadays it is evident that exposure to very loud noise can result in irreversible hearing damage. More and more studies demonstrate the importance of protecting our hearing by avoiding exposure to very loud noise for long periods of time.
Enjoying a high-quality concert while limiting the risks associated with overexposure to loud noise is the challenge which has been met by AB. For a few years already, we've been offering free individual hearing protectors to concert-goers. You will find them at the entrance and in the Agora area. Children have not been overlooked either, as professional hearing protectors, in the form of a headset, are also available for them during concerts. Simply ask one of the stewards who will loan you a headset in exchange for your ID card. If you would like further information, our « Decibels » brochure is available at the entrance.
These ear plugs are one of the services provided in the context of the Quality Nights Label, which AB signed up to in 2014. AB, along with other Brussels establishments working with this label, offer health services to the public (of which 6 are common to all : ear plugs, condoms, free water, trained personnel, safe transport home, health info). These allow attendees to get the most out of their nights out while taking care of their health.
When do I need to be particularly attentive to the risks of hearing damage ?
Depending on our physical state, we can be more delicate or more sensitive to noise. These factors can influence our perception of the sound level. Being in a tired state or having a cold can easily make your ears more delicate. Consuming psychotropic substances (alcohol, drugs, etc.) can distort hearing perception and mask feelings of pain.
Apply these tips to stay in good health : stand at a certain distance from the source of the noise, avoid concentrating multiple nights out in a short space of time, spread out the time you are exposed to noise by reducing the volume on your portable device so as to be able to increase the listening time, give yourself breaks (30mins/2 hours) and consult an ENT specialist as quickly as possible in the event of tinnitus or hearing loss.
If you bear these tips in mind, the only thing left to do is move to the rhythm of the music and enjoy the concert with complete peace of mind.
Benefit from the Quality Nights services offered by AB !
AB has signed up to the Quality Nights Label, meaning that it takes care of the public by providing useful health services (free water and ear plugs, condoms, health info, safe transport home, trained personnel, etc.). Don’t hesitate to ask a steward where you can find these or find out more information over at the Quality Nights website.
