Ancienne Belgique is situated in a historical location in the heart of Brussels and has developed into a true music temple, with various concert spaces and a café-restaurant.
The current organisation of the buildings in the Steenstraat has various limitations. A complete reorganisation and redesign of these buildings is intended to guarantee a better interaction with the audience and ensure that the buildings better integrate with the workings of the venue. Diversity, sustainability and accessibility play a crucial role here.
Currently, the restaurant offers insufficient capacity for the audience. An expansion of the restaurant, including a new professional kitchen, will bring change to that situation. The flat roofs of the buildings are to be transformed into terraces and gardens, plus a herb garden for the kitchen. Thus allowing customers to enjoy, in peace, the original vegetarian dishes created with sustainable vegetables & herbs from these gardens right in the middle of the bustling city.
AB Salon, a multi-functional space for concerts, artist talks, readings, films, book launches, lesson series, workshops, meetings, ... will be relocated to be closer to the concert spaces.
With the mission of providing a cultural offering for everyone, almost all of these activities will be entirely free of charge.
From now on, the existing café on the ground floor will be used as an extra bar for the Main Hall.
These interventions go hand in hand with an improvement to the accessibility of all spaces in this building and to the Main Hall.
