AB has been providing an opportunity for young photographers to develop themselves within AB as official In-house Photographer for 7 seasons now, with guidance, free admittance to his/her favourite concert hall, and an exhibition at the end of the season.
For the 2016-2017 season, we are looking for a motivated photographer with a sharp eye and a passion for live music who would be more than happy to capture the new concert-year, both the concerts and the AB concertgoers, and share them with the world via AB’s social media.
You receive access to the AB for a year and a photo exhibition at the end of the season.
Send us, prior to August 20, a letter of motivation and a link to 5 of your photos (tagged as abhuisfotograaf2016 via Flickr, your blog, …) to peter.deckers@abconcerts.be (with as subject: AB huisfotograaf) and follow on from Damon De Backer as AB In-house Photographer!
Addition on 7 July 2016
We understand the reactions and would like to make clear that our in-house photographer program isn’t about exploitation in any way. We are very passionate about nurturing young musical talent at AB (through our Artists in Residence program, for instance) and the in-house photographer program is a prolongation of that idea.
The goal is to help an inexperienced wannabe-photographer to gain experience and fulfill his or her potential by letting him/her loose at AB for a year. We support the photographer with a budget for material (1000 euro), an exposition at the end of the season, advice, contacts, drink tokens, meals,… and give him/her a tremendous amount of freedom in order to choose what he/she wants to do (our current photographer Damon De Backer, for instance, wanted to do portraits and we helped him set-up sessions with some of the biggest names in music).
Our past in-house photographers over the last few years have all been very positive about the experience and have progressed immensely because of the opportunity. Damon De Backer, for instance, has become a house-hold name within the music industry and has had numerous paid jobs over the last year, including the publication of his pictures in numerous leading Belgian newspapers and an exhibition abroad. Predominantly because of his talent, of course, but also a little because of AB’s help. We’re very proud of what Damon has achieved and are looking forward to working together with our next in-house photographer.
