Ancienne Belgique is again granted the label of Ecodynamic Enterprise by Leefmilieu Brussel. Just like in 2014, we received the maximum of 3 stars, so that means the sustainability accents implemented at an organisational level are delivering the desired results.
This week we zoom in on mobility and our organisation in general.
Mobility
From the 5-yearly audience audit of 2017, it is apparent that AB’s narrative around mobility works. The percentage of individual transportation (amongst our audience) has dropped by 21% since 2007, to the level of 50%. This means that our unique collaborations with the MIVB, NMBS and future partners are fine examples of sustainable mobility.
We are invested in the sustainable mobility of our employees, with things like the fact that AB possesses only 1 vehicle, which serves purely for transporting artists; we see how our employees come to work and try to stimulate public transport and travel by bike as much as possible. Colleagues can make use of the AB-bike with trailer for running errands in the city. Due to how we function internally, all colleagues have the necessary flexibility to work at home, saving them a trip to Brussels and back.
Organisation
We also try to make more sustainable such obvious tasks as cleaning, where instead of ecological (but still chemical detergent) cleaning products we have switched over to pH-neutral cleaning based upon enzymes (probiotics) whereby extra attention is given to the environment and whereby we work with a minimum amount of water. We do all our rubbish collection sorted, with attention for extra fractions like plastic foil, and try to reduce the portion of actual waste as much as we can. Old electronics and equipment are given away to others in the cultural sector in and around Brussels via sharing systems and to individuals via social media. Doing this saves us a number of containers of waste per year.
And, aside from achieving the Ecodynamic Enterprise label, we have an own goal involving reducing our ecological footprint by 5% every 2 years. We calculate this footprint ever 2 years according to a calculator and compare that with the historical data.
More coming next week!
