Whether you like it or not, it’ll bet that time of year again soon! Sweet smelling Christmas markets with babbling folks in Santa hats, jenever stains and glühwein. High time to start wrapping yourself up. AB gives you a helping hand to endure this cold period. Warm yourself at a few wonderful ‘Christmas concerts’ and, before you know it, spring will soon be bursting from the new buds.
Nits return to AB again on 15.12, lucky us!
Right off the bat, to borrow a 'Nitszeggend'* (=‘meaningless’) message: 'Nits has been Holland’s most elusive band for forty five years now. With their idiosyncratic oeuvre and hits like 'In The Dutch Mountains', 'Nescio' and 'Adieu, Sweet Bahnhof' they established a loyal following of fans worldwide. Nits is a memorable experience live. Their concerts display vitality, humour, virtuosity and a deep European melancholy. Always with tongue in cheek.
16.12: Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares!
Isn’t it strange how an ensemble that was established in 1952 (!), and had an incredible popularity in the second half of the ‘80s, suddenly turns up everywhere again. The angelic voices of Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares have appeared at the renowned Primavera festival in Barcelona and also at AB. Lady Gaga recently used their music in her documentary ‘Five Foot Two’ and Le Mystère was also flaunted on ‘kick-ass women’, a recent Gorillaz mixtape. Drake and Leftfield sampled their music and Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance) helped out on their latest album ‘BooCheeMish’.
Please note: this concert takes place in the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula (Wilde Woudstraat 15, 1000 Brussels), a 5 minute walk from Central Station.
18.12: The Bony King Of Nowhere!
A mist of echo and melancholy.
In 2018, after more than three years of silence, The Bony King of Nowhere returned with his widely praised fifth album. 'Silent Days' was swamped in multi-starred ratings, landed in many a year-end chart as Best Album of 2018 and even provided Bram Vanparys with a MIA for Best Writer/Composer. During the tour that followed, The Bony King easily managed to meet the high expectations around the album, and convinced audiences during a series of sold-out shows in both Belgium and The Netherlands. It seemed no less than appropriate to round the year off with a brilliant AB concert by this talented man!
