AB and deBuren, the Flemish-Dutch house of culture & debate, now work together to present a series of tasteful afternoon concerts. Music, sandwiches and soup, right near De Munt / La Monnaie, in the heart of Brussels. Read: the perfect lunch-break. For this first edition, we take a lunch break with none less than musical discovery Tristan.
Tristan on Friday 27.03.20
This artist from Ghent has been hailed by many a music connoisseur as ‘one to watch’. Her latest EP ‘Delidomia’ (released in 2019 via PIAS) signalled the commencement of an upward spiral, one that we would be more than happy to see reach the top. Ambient, pop, jazz, electronica … it’s all of that. Tristan – aka Isolde Van den Bulcke – presents honest and personal music, with song titles that sound unusual but only because they are also so genuine. Isolde is still seeking her own voice with Tristan, but it is already pure pleasure to experience her live.
Fulco on Friday 08.05.20
Fulco Ottenvanger’s Dutch-language pop solo-project returns to vibrant Brussels. The Dutch/Belgian/Brussellian/guy from Ghent (who we also know from De Beren Gieren, STADT and the duo BeraadGeslagen) has roots all over place. A true child of the world! And today he dedicates himself to Dutch pop, or is it Dutch funk? Jazz? He could be seen in our AB Club late in 2019, for the launch of his new solo album (also entitled ‘FULCO’). We can testify to the fact that it was a phenomenal show. What can you expect? A musical afternoon, a little bit of disorder, all held together by a layer of humour.
Zandland on Friday 29.05.20
Jazz, and also a bit of cabaret, with Dutch-language lyrics is what we can expect with this new musical project from Niels Boutsen (also known as singer-songwriter Stoomboot) and saxophonist Marjan Van Rompay. Whereas Stoomboot’s starting point is the lyrics, Zandland begins with sultry and melancholy melodies blown by Van Rompay. With five musicians - vocals, saxophone, bass, drum and guitar – from the four corners of Flanders, their first album (also titled ‘Zandland’) is a poetic and diverse journey of discovery.
