From chill wave to glitch hop: long live bedroom producers!
The new crop of American bedroom producers have a lot in common. They are influenced by Jamie xx, Burial and James Blake. Get everything by Brainfeeder – the label of Flying Lotus – and Tri Angle (see: Holy Other and Balam Acab). And: they know their hip hop classics (and R&B on the sly)! Welcome to an evening of chill wave, glitch hop, experimental pop and dreamwave.
XXYYXX (us - live)
Barely 17 and dubbed Florida’s latest electronics wonder kid. This youngster DJ/producer - Marcel Everett to his friends - is most often compared to Flying Lotus, J. Dilla and James Blake and is mad about everything on Brainfeeder. AB is a fan.
Blackbird Blackbird (us – live)
Moniker for San Francisco-based producer Mikey Maramag. His dreamy folktronica is influenced by the likes of Caribou, Washed Out, Four Tet, Mount Kimbie and – here he is again – James Blake.
Slow Magic (us - live)
Slow Magic calls himself ‘an unknown imaginary friend’ and likes to stay anonymous. On stage he hides behind a colourful zebra mask. Did someone shout SBTRKT? His music? Dreamy electronic pop.
Giraffage (us - live)
Or: Charlei Yin. His credo? Dreaming while you're awake. Used to work with XXYYXX.
Dream Koala: “If Flying Lotus was Toro Y Moi he would be Dream Koala”.
