Balthazar-frontman follows Gainsbourg, Cohen and Cave
‘Warhaus maakt bezwerend en jazzy debuut op Pukkelpop.’
(De Redactie)
‘Devoldere bracht met een minimum aan middelen een maximum aan sexappeal.’
(Het Nieuwblad)
Warhaus is Maarten Devoldere (half of Balthazar’s frontman-duo). He deliberately remained under the radar for a long time with that nom de plume. With extremely scant revelations, he granted us a peek at a somewhat rarified universe, fed by ill humour and hankering.
Central theme: love. In September he’ll be coming out with first album, ‘We fucked a flame into being’. With influences of the French sixties, a touch of exoticism, a careless listlessness... Cohen, Cave and Gainsbourg are never far away but Warhaus samples cleverly from fifty years of music history.
