Bass-driven instrumental mood music, as part of Proche (expo by our inhouse-photographer Michelle Geerardyn)
To end the first evening of Proche (the expo of our resident photographer Michelle Geerardyn) musically and festively, there will be a performance by vlou. The expo trail ends at the AB Club, where vlou will start at 9pm.
vlou is the bass-driven music project of South African bassist and composer Vee Lourenço. With live bass and digital production (influenced by Khruangbin, Flea and Marcus Miller), vlou's sound is rooted in a fusion of modern psychedelia, funk and jazz.
Musically, vlou is a bass-forward project with the intention of developing a greater understanding and appreciation of the bass. This is done by placing the instrument at the forefront of compositions. Socially, vlou aims to contribute to the visibility and representation of female instrumentalists and queer musicians. vlou grew out of the need for a creative outlet during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when it was not always possible to work together.
Vee completed her Bachelor of Music at Rhodes University, South Africa, in 2013 and has over 15 years of experience in various musical contexts as a bassist, composer, performer and recording artist in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Vietnam and France. She is currently based in Brussels, Belgium.
