Venus In Flames is still the alter-ego of Jan De Campenaere. Following a relatively quiet period, this intimate songwriter is completely back again... with a new album: ‘Intimacy’,which De Campenaere has released on his very own Safe Haven Records (named after one of his first singles). An album that is once again about love (is there a more beautiful theme?) and was also recorded with a fine selection of musicians such as Bart Maris, Neeka and Maarten Standaert (Rios,…). ‘Intimacy’? So, of course, his CD will also be appropriately launched in our intimate ABClub.
The more than worthy opener for Venus in Flames' ABCLUB concert will be Swedish duo First Aid Kit. Young sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg made quite an impression on us at the last edition of Eurosonic. But The Knife was also quite impressed at the time. First Aid Kit's debut EP was released last year on Rabid Records, The Knife's label. Those who are fans of Vashti Bunyan, Devendra Banhart, Bright Eyes, Joanna Newsom, Taxi Taxi! or Karen Dalton: be aware! Anything more to brag about? The Guardian wrote of First Aid Kit: “Blessed with the voices of plaid-clad angels”. Or just check out You Tube for their impressive version of Fleet Foxes' ‘Tiger Mountain Peasant Song’. First Aid Kit's debut album will only be out in autumn, but can already be discovered in the ABClub now.
