Fine Finnish folk! Comparisons with Laïs are permitted. But Värttinä was first, and is still around! In spite of a rather long pause. Harmonious, compelling and incomprehensible? Making it even more beautiful and interesting! Some can even discern Karelian or Ugrian influences. At Dranouter for the first time in 1992, their most recent visit to AB already dates from 2006 (then with their tenth CD 'Miero'.) Now there's a compilation out for their 25th anniversary and there are new recordings planned for the end of this year. Are you ready for a very promising live introduction to that new material on this wintery Saturday evening? Trance & tradition go skilfully hand in hand here, more modern influences intermingle organically with the vocal escapades. This concert is a part of Arctic Accents.
Arctic Accents boosts Finnish music in the Benelux
Arctic Accents – Sounds of Finland 2011 - is the season of Finnish music in the Benelux in the autumn 2011. The campaign calls attention to all Finnish music in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, with the help of a website www.arcticaccents.fi introducing artists and events, the use of Facebook and Twitter, and other means of communication.
The campaign is organized by Finnish Music Information Centre Fimic in cooperation with Finnish Cultural Institute for the Benelux and the local Finnish Embassies. The main concert partners include Melkweg in the Netherlands, Ancienne Belgique and Vooruit in Belgium, and Rockhal in Luxembourg. In addition, festivals dedicated to the music of composer Kaija Saariaho will take place in the Netherlands and in Belgium.
