Aside Goat and Pallbearer, Britain's Uncle Acid And The Deadbeats was the hype in Roadburn circles this year, the prestigious metal festival in Tilburgh for anything that is psychedelic, avant-garde, doom or basically left-field metal. “So the question is: will that hype also prove itself? For Uncle Acid And The Deadbeats the answer is definitely: yes!” Dutch music mag Oor is certainly convinced and critical music-blog KindaMuzik even thought that “the idiosyncratic Uncle Acid laid down a prime set at Roadburn.”

Their fuzz-sopped psychedelic doom-metal floats along on the ripples made in the metal-pond by bands like Black Sabbath (with whom they'll be touring this fall), Blue Öyster Cult and even Alice Cooper (Ghost, Kadavar, Witchcraft and even Graveyard also draw from the same rotten vat). The themes on second longplayer ‘Mind Control’ flirt with the occult: Ritual sacrifices, a religious sect leader who preaches death and destruction, bizarre ceremonies in the dessert… You can hardly call the mysterious Uncle Acid a cheerful chap, but he's certainly got hold of the perfect distorted vibe for his ‘slasher-metal’.

‘Mind Control’, successor to the majestic ‘Blood Lust’ and ‘Volume 1’ (of which the vinyl pressing is highly desired by collectors, with amounts above 1,000 EUR being paid for a copy), drags you willy-nilly along into the dark, revenge- and blood-hungry world of Uncle Acid and his Deadbeats, with all that this entails…
