After The National, Grizzly Bear & Frightened Rabbit, now…
“Straight to the emotional point… Enough to make us believe in indie guitar rock again” (The Guardian)
“Their debut album is dressed in beautiful epic indie and new wave pop threads” (Q Magazine)
“Dark lyrical musing… matched by epic musical sensibilities” (Mojo)
Friends of friends are friends, we don't split hairs at AB. Certainly not when those friends of friends are Londeners To Kill A King - good mates of electro-pop sensation Bastille- and they appear on 27/11 as opener to a packed AB, write a debut like ‘Cannibals With Cutlery’ and get compared with The National, Grizzly Bear, Frightened Rabbit and Two Door Cinema Club.
Their first single ‘Fictional State’ was released by Communion Records - the label of Ben ‘Mumford & Sons’ Lovett with Michael Kiwanuka, Ben Howard, Daughter and Half Moon Run in the ranks - and they knocked on the door of Xtra Mile Recordings (Frank Turner, Future Of The Left) for their debut.
Folk infected indie-pop whereby the baritone of frontman Ralph Pelleymounter grabs your ear and overwhelms the complex compositions and dark lyrics with an appropriate dose of melancholy. Ideal as soundtrack to a wintry Wednesday, crowded into a cosy AB Club.
Spring Offensive
The five from Spring Offensive certainly chose their band name well! Just like the last German offensive to overpower Europe in 1918, the guys will soon be heading into battle as warmer-upper for To Kill A King. As of early 2014, they intend to inundate our continent with their debut ‘Young Animal Hearts’ - an album full of edgy guitar pop. They're not planning to slink off without any loot either... “We have guitars, we have driving rhythms, we sing in harmony and we mean it.”
