India+Turkey+Morocco+Michto!
In full, it's still Titi Robin. The most charming and capable guitar and oud and bouzouki player and bandleader. More in the section ‘tzigane’, ‘gitane’ or ‘michto’.
Apparently born in Angers, France. But, above all, a superb musical autodidact and open-hearted globetrotter. With ten highly recommendable releases under his own name since '93.
Then, most recently, there's that marvellous 'Les Rives' project: a collaboration with diverse musicians in various lands and also the triple CD of the same name on Naïve/Pias.
'Les Rives' comprises the 'Indian' CD 'Laal Asmaan', the 'Turkish' CD 'Gül Yapraklari', and the Moroccan CD 'Likaat'. Recorded on location each time, with local musicians (and, where possible, linked to a local tour.) And the CDs were first released in each land apart.
Border-crossing and genre-transcending. Or, another such detail: his site is in French and English, of course, but he also wants to make room for Pharsi, Romanes, Türkçe, Arab, Hindi and Español! There should be more like that (say we, here in Dutch.)
Also present in early 2013 at leading American music festival SXSW, but Monday 2 December finally returning for his 3rd visit to AB. We expect Titi Robin then with his trio: Titi Robin: guitar, oud, bouzouki - Francis Varis: accordion - Ze Luis Nascimento: percussion. But there will also be: Murad Alli: sarangi (vedel, India) - Sinan Celik: kaval (flute, Turkey) - El Mehdi Nassouli: vocals, sintir, krakeb (Marokko).
Support-act will be none less than local flamenco guitar-wizard Myrddin, Myrddin De Cauter in full, of course
