Touareg rock, alias desert world-music, alias the roots of the blues
Finally back! From deep in the desert! Bearing a new (fifth?) CD. Tinariwen has been the hypnotic band surrounding Ibrahim Ag Alhabib for thirty years now. Apparently it's actually Kel Tinariwen, alias 'desert boys', as these folks are also Touaregs. With a homebase in Mali but with a (bloody) history stretching as far as Libya and Algeria.
In the AB with T-Model Ford for a memorable 'Alan Lomax' evening at the end of 2009, in search of the roots of the blues. Best catalogued under 'world' and 'roots'. Tinariwen is the missing link between West Africa and the Mississippi delta. Just ask Robert Plant, Carlos Santana, The Rolling Stones, Peter Gabriel... Or even think Jimi Hendrix, Ali Farka Touré...
Ever exciting words from the De Standaard, for the CD 'Aman Iman' in 2007: 'Conquest from the desert... what fantastic power... this is deep, hypnotic music that is rooted in an age-old métier’. Timeless music that blows over to us from another universe. For those not master of the language: Tinariwen concerts are also a visually exciting trip (even going as far as including sufficient simultaneous translating!) Make a feast of it!
