âMy favorite new band.â (Stuart âTindersticksâ Staples)
âMocht Joy Division folk hebben gespeeld, dan had het wellicht geklonken als Murder.â (De Morgen)
Denmark's Murder still encompasses the duo Jacob Bellens (who ever energetically resides in I Got You On Tape) and guitarist Anders Mathiasen. We heard their excellent âfolk noirâ for the first time on the album âStockholm Syndromeâ in â07, the year that they impressively debuted in AB. Their latest album 'Gospel Of Manâ was released earlier this year and had Cobra TV grasp the words âoverwhelmingly beautiful musicâ. Murder even spent some time on the longlist of the Nordic Music Prize with this album, that was eventually won by JĂłnsi with his album âGoâ. Crucial to Murder is still the eccentric, dark and hypnotic voice of singer Jacob Bellens who makes many wink to Johnny Cash. Basically: a blatantly brilliant Dane after our own heart.
9:45 pm Timber Timbre (CAN)
Timber Timbre immediately took a mandatory option for 'concert of the year' with their visit to the AB Club earlier this year. Their compelling âfolk noirâ - it appears to be the theme this evening â has a lot to do with the irresistable baritone voice of singer/drummer Taylor Kirk who sometimes sounds a little like Elvis but mainly tends toward the spirit Nick Cave's work. Think: gospel, blues, doo-wop, retro rock and country that would be best done justice by a David Lynch film. By the way, behind Canada's Timber Timbre you will find a well-balanced trio of multi-instrumentalists that the term âhauntingly beautifulâ was really made for. TT has already released four albums, the most recent two of which have really made the difference for them. Hauntingly beautiful!
