Bon Iver support, subtle acoustic folk sister trio!
The Staves (uk)
From the US? From the UK, actually Watson! Three English sisters in subtle harmony.
Jessica, Emily and Camilla started out on 'open mic' evenings by their family name of Staveley-Taylor. That quickly became The Staves. And before they knew it, they were supporting The Civil Wars in the USA (did you know that, here in Europe!?).
To start with there were the EP releases: 'Facing West', 'Live At Cecil Sharp House', 'Mexico' and 'The Motherlode'. Now at last we have the 'full album': 'Dead & Born & Grown', here thanks to Warner and produced by Glyn & Ethan Johns.
Acoustic Folk then. But The Staves clearly do it with a devilish subtlety that makes them instantly appealing on both sides of the Atlantic. Delightful harmonies and fine accompaniment. And OK, nice to look at too.
Nice too, to see Aardman studios back at work in the Winter Trees clip!
SIVU (uk)
The Staves bring along SIVU as support-act. You want to take a peep in his head? It's possible. Literally! Sivu is an intriguing British singer. With a certainly extremely penetrating clip for 'Better Man Than Me': made entirely from revealing MRI scans. In the ABClub we expect the dressed version.
