Since the start of 2008, one of Belgium's best bands may carry the title 'AB Artist In Residence'. Why? Because this band - with its sound, vision and work ethic - is unique in our contemporary musical landscape. A band with international allures. 'We spread communism by the gallon of gasoline.' It could be a statement from the German terror-organization RAF but it's the first catch phrase on 'Vanguard', the second album from progressive rock band The Sedan Vault. This new LP shows an evolved group that goes further than the usual punk and rock influences. 'Vanguard' has grooves, harmonies and especially strong lyrics. Although The Sedan Vault hasn't lost its raw hardcore edge, the band now produces a richer sound and better songs. The beat pumps harder, the guitars are smarter and the arrangements vary from electronica to dark copper horns and Eastern European strings. The vocals sound more melodious, with lines that are powerful yet sing-alongable. 'Vanguard' is no second 'Mardi Gras'. The new album combines former influences, including Philip Glass and The Residents, with sounds from now - like The Mars Volta, Battles and Klaxons - which is what gives 'Vanguard' international allures. Above all, The Sedan Vault is known for their wild and energetic live shows and so the AB is pleased to be able to present this new album live.
