7:00 pm - SOUNDTRACK BY… AYCO DUYSTER & EPPO JANSSEN
8:30 pm - WILLIAM FITZSIMMONS (us)
May we heartily welcome you and gently insist that you be present on time for this formidable opener? Admittedly: the name William Fitzsimmons doesn't yet sound exceptionally renowned, but that will soon change. Fans of Iron & Wine, Elliott Smith or Sufjan Stevens will take this troubadour into their hearts right away. Just as those who discovered Fitzsimmons as the opener to Sophia earlier this year in AB. This bushily bearded songwriter and son of blind parents has already released three albums including the recent ‘The Sparrow And The Crow’, hopefully soon to be available in this part of the world too. In the US he tours as an appropriate opener to Madeleine Peyroux and his music could previously be heard in the successful TV series Grey’s Anatomy. Boston Herald wrote of his most recent album: “A Near Masterpiece. … Fitzsimmons' artistic achievement is huge and lasting”. See here, we've quite simply got nothing to add to that.
9:30 pm - THE IRREPRESSIBLES - Light And Show Spectacle
“The Irrepressibles are one of Britain's best-kept secrets, noted for their orchestral arrangements, dramatic songs, theatrical costumes and the soaring voice of Jamie McDermott.” (The Independent)
Never heard of The Irrepressibles? We hadn't either until recently… But a good international informant couldn't contain his enthusiasm for this group. At the young (but impressive) Latitude Festival (UK) they last year appeared between Sigur Rós, our very own dEUS, Joanna Newson and also The Mars Volta. The Observer wrote: “Best discovery at Latitude”. Just feast on a little MySpace and YouTube and you'll soon change tack! The Irrepressibles are a 10 to 12-member collective from London that isn't shy of a little theatricality. The Sunday Telegraph described them as follows: “Between early Roxy Music and a Peter Greenway movie, fronted by a singer, Jamie McDermott, who looks like the young Bryan Ferry and sounds like Anthony.” The Observer goes one step further: “McDermott’s voice is even more astounding than Antony Hegarty’s”. Quite something! Meanwhile, expect an impressive light and show spectacle on top of the music, which goes a long way in itself …
