US indie rock/folk/Americana band presents brand new album
Social media? Qué? That's what The Decemberists from Portland, Oregon, must have thought. They allowed themselves to be inspired by Kurt Vile who announced the release of his new album ‘Wakin On A Pretty Daze’ in ’13 by means of a life-size mural that was placed overnight. So The Decemberists recently surprised everyone with a similar mural in Brooklyn to announce their latest issue.
It's called ‘What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World’ and is the successor to ‘The King Is Dead’, from ’11, from which the track ‘Down by the Water’ received the Grammy Award for ‘Best Rock Song’ that year.
Their indie pop/rock is drenched with folk and Americana and echo’s of Gram Parsons, but Emmylou Harris, Wilco and R.E.M. are never far removed. Now in AB for the first time.
