Time for a fine tale? Or a sublimely subversive lullaby? Or the exquisite vocal presence of the duo The Civil Wars!? This American couple sing divine country & folk chanson together, with minimal accompaniment from guitar (and/or a little piano). Fantastic own songs but now and then a serene version of ‘Dance Me To The End Of Love’, ‘You Are My Sunshine’...
The story becomes even more charming: not a couple (so they say) but they found each other in 2008 via a blind date singer-songwriter session and it instantly clicked artistically for John Paul White and Joy Williams. Their second concert was even good for at least a hundred thousand downloads of the 'Live @ Eddie's Attic' recordings.
Also remarkable: 'Poison & Wine', a first single was broadcast in its entirety(!) during an episode of TV series Grey's Anatomy and hundreds of thousands then scoured the internet for that (venomous) beauty too.
All that searching is now finally rewarded with, here too, the official first CD: ‘Barton Hollow’.
The Civil Wars have now been to shine on Later With Jools on the BBC and there was an American tour planned with Adele, who apparently said the following about them: 'the best live band I have ever seen!'? Hearing is believing!
