With 2 sold-out concerts in the AB behind them, The Moon Invaders now announce their return to the AB. On Sunday 2 May they present the live CD that they recorded during those 2 concerts. None less than The Aggrolites will be there too, to really set the whole party aflame. They've toured the world now with their new CD ‘IV’, and they made a magnificent mash-up of Jamaican reggae and American soul and R&B.
The Moon Invaders, that soul-ska collective from Brussels, will be camping in the ABClub for 2 days to record a live CD, on 4 and 5 December. This CD will be released in the Spring of 2010. These 9 young guys from the Brussels area share a passion for Jamaican music from the 60's & 70's: ska, rocksteady and a primal version of reggae that they cross-pollinate with dub, soul and rhythm & blues. Their vintage sound also carries the typical Studio One stamp too – something that bands like The Slackers and Hepcat also impress with. Just see: they managed to get hold of Slackers frontman Vic Ruggiero as producer for their previous album ‘Moovin’ & Groovin’. On top of that, they've also toured Europe as backing band to Doreen Shaffer of The Skatalites and, a little later, to Pat Kelly too.
The Aggrolites, the masters of dirty reggae! November 2007 still marks the ‘hottest ever party in the ABClub’, with a 2 hour long(!) after-showww following Gogol Bordello, and they later shared the AB's main stage with The Skatalites - in a mildly phenomenal manner - in November 2008. This is something for those who like a mixture of ska and reggae that has been fertilised by raw soul and funk, that runs away with the punk mentality of their (HellCat/Epitaph) label. Growing up with the best of James Brown, The Meters and Wilson Pickett, this fivesome made acquaintance in Los Angeles around 2002. The band can thank its popularity especially to the many tours during which they played together with their Jamaican heroes Prince Buster and The Skatalites, ska veterans Madness and Hepcat or the punk outfit Dropkick Murphys. Their album ‘IV’, which was released in 2009 has been a big success.
