Two Canadian sisters named Quin who have been working on pop songs since high school and have meanwhile scored a world hit with 'Back In Your Head'? That must be Tegan and Sara. In 2000 they were signed by Neil Young to the Vapor label and since then their career has taken off rapidly. ‘Sainthood’, their new record, was produced by the likes of Chris Walla (who we know as guitarist and producer to Death Cab For Cutie) and mixed by Dave Sardy (Oasis, Ting Tings). An album full of stories about romance and its flip-side, with a title they derived from the Leonard Cohen song ‘Came So Far For Beauty’.
Astronautalis (Andy Bothwell to his mother) is an American indie hip-hop artiest who was once described as: ‘if Beck were a decade or so younger and had grown up more heavily immersed in hip-hop’. ‘Pomegranate’ is the title of his third CD, which was released last year. He regularly reminds us of Doseone from the Anticon label, no wonder that Astronautalis regularly shares a stage with the likes of Sole & The Skyrider Band.
