Futuristic glitch from the Flying Lotus/Brainfeeder stables.
AB means: we're a fan of Flying Lotus. His AB visit was downright impressive at the time and his appearance at the latest edition of All Tomorrow's Parties was finger-licking good too. His full-time hobby - called Brainfeeder (see too: Ras_G, MatthewDavid, Taylor Mcferrin, Thundercat,…) - is also one of the most exciting record labels of the moment . The enigmatic The Gaslamp Killer has already stopped by here before and now it's the turn of latest signings Teebs and Samiyam.
Behind Teebs you'll find LA-resident hip-hop artist Mtendere Mandowa, who debuted in ’10 with ‘Ardeur’ and put out the EP ‘Collections 01’ quite soon after that. His beats are often sticky sweet and Pitchfork compares them with ‘watercolor paintings’. No coincidence, as Teebs himself also paints. Samiyam – the alter-ego of Sam Baker – also deals in instrumental hip-hop with a futuristic disposition and snacks on the legacy of J Dilla too. He's recorded an EP for Hyperdub. His second album ‘Sam Baker’s Album’ was described by Boomkat as “Trippy as f*ck, and quite brilliant”.
Ready for an evening full of futuristic glitch?
Lapalux is the latest signing to the hot Brainfeeder label. Behind the alias hides beat scientist Stuart Howard from Essex. Lapalux vouches for rebounding hip hop and R&B instrumentals with echo’s of oOoOO and Mount Kimbie that will be much appreciated by fans of Four Tet, Bibio and FlyLo. Following his cassette release only ‘Many Faces Out Of Focus’, he debuted this month with the EP ‘When You're Gone’ on Brainfeeder.
