Steve Winwood is coming to present his latest solo record 'Nine Lives' in the AB on October 17. This summer he's touring through the United States with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, much to the amusement of press and general public. Together with a quintet, he presents a selection from his sizeable oeuvre. Aside from the hits from the past there is plenty of room in the set for the music from his new and extremely organic masterpiece.
Steve Winwood's oeuvre can best be compared to an adventure novel. As a kid of fifteen he started out in the Spencer Davis Group ('Gimme some lovin') and was later part of Traffic ('Dear Mr. Fantasy') and Blind Faith ('Can't find my way home'). In between he was (and is) a much-asked session musician and he's played organ and guitar on the most diverse records (from Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King, Joe Cocker, Lou Reed, Tina Turner, Marianne Faithfull to Leyers, Michiels & Soulsister and Christina Aguilera).
In the Punk year 1977 Steve began his successful solo career. Songs like 'Arc of a diver', 'Valerie', 'Talking back to the night', 'Higher Love', 'Back in the High life again' and 'Roll with it' have since been etched in the collective memory. In 2008 Winwood once again strengthens the bond with Eric Clapton. In February they sold out Madison Square Garden in New York together three times and they dove into the studio again for the brilliant 'Dirty City'. 'Slowhand' won't be there for the European Tour but you can take it from us that there will be more than enough musical value for those looking for that something extra.
