Enduring, explosive, rousing, pounding and dark, musical trip, ideal soundtrack for the apocalypse…” National criticasters - including Cutting Edge, Kwadratuur and RifRaf - aren't avoiding superlatives for the self-titled debut by seven-member, instrumental band Statue.
Five snare-drivers plus bass and drums, who all met in the dark dens of Hasselt's PHL Music, artfully dodge between post-rock (Mogwai), post-metal/sludge (Pelican), experimental rock (Battles), progressive 70’s rock (Pink Floyd), stoner (QOTSA) and noisy alternative rock (Sonic Youth) with their dreamy soundscapes and occasional clouts of guitar noise, without losing their own identity.
Faut le faire! Impressively melodious compositions, with repetitive riffs that suck you into a whirlwind of emotions… Enough to make one become lyrical. “Or, how dreamy and demure a wall of sound can sometimes sound” whispered Lies Steppe (Laika-Klara) when she released first single ‘A New Sun’ into the ether.
STATUEextended feat. Wouter Vlaeminck, Johannes Verschaeve, Cedric Maes, Gianni Marzo and company.
Statue wants to make the very most of this AB Coca-Cola Session! Driving force Lennart Janssen wrote a Statue composition for no less than 17 guitars (hence the Extended in the name) and dragged that small army of guitar power into MotorMusic Studios where they canned the song live all in one go. That live-recording, which clocked in at around 20 minutes, will be re-released in a limited edition vinyl pressing on Friday 11 October. The very same day of the AB Club concert!
For this AB-concert, the young lads from Statue have invited Belgium's best guitar-gods to perform this STATUEextended composition ‘etoa 20.25’ (estimated time of arrival) for the first time live, and entirely exclusive, on local soil. Sure to be attending are:
Stef Kamil Carlens (Zita Swoon Group), Pascal Deweze (Metal Molly, Broken Glass Heroes, Sukilove), Rodrigo Fuentealba (MannGold De Cobre), Steven Janssens (Mark Lanegan), Cedric Maes (The Sore Losers), Patrick Steenaerts (Yevgueni), Gert Stinckens (Benny Zen And The Syphilis Madmen), Luc Van Acker (Arbeid Adelt!, Ministry, Revolting Cocks), Johannes Verschaeve (The Van Jets), Wouter Vlaeminck (Tomàn), Philipp Weies (MannGold De Cobre). How about you?
