Legendary drone/ambient band plays unique location in Brussels
Stars Of The Lid (SOTL), one of the most important drone / ambient bands of recent decades, will be touring again this year.
For this exclusive tour, SOTL will be expanded from its founders Adam Wiltzie and Brian McBride to include Robert Donne (Labradford), Francesco Donadello, and Brussels residents & string ensemble Echo Collective (A Winged Victory For The Sullen) plus a Moog 55 Modular & ARP 2600 synthesizer.
Aside from a UK tour – in which they appear at the likes of London’s Barbican – and a concert in Amsterdam, they’ll also be appearing in Brussels. In the magnificent (Saint Jan Baptist) Begijnhof Church built in Flemish Baroque style, backed by visual artist Luke Savisky and light designer MFO (from Berlin), SOTL will present a mix of new material and a number of classics from their oeuvre. In a recent article, Rolling Stone Magazine hailed de band as being ‘the most acclaimed ambient musicians since the heyday of Brian Eno’ and the two recently re-released albums ‘The Tired Sounds’ and ‘And Their Refinement of the Decline’ (both on Kranky) as ‘Ambient masterworks’
This will no doubt be one of the concerts to look forward to this fall.
The Begijnhof Church is located on the Begijnhofplein, 1000 Brussels. No more than 10 minutes’ walk from AB, closest metro station is Sint Katelijne (Lijn 1 & 5, 2 min. walk), then there’s Central Station at 11 minutes’ walk away.
