Ruler of the Grime scene
‘I’m not a rapper, I’m an activist’ said Skepta during an interview with Time Out Magazine. The rapper came to be the embodiment of the grime scene, the furious back street rap London. Together with Stormzy, he leads a generation of keen young grime rappers.
Skepta has been leading the British rap battles for decades now. In the early days of the grime scene, he and his younger brother JME were a part of the renowned ‘Meridian Crew’. A few years later, he started his own ‘Boy Better Know’ label.
Now, Skepta already has four longplayers to his name. What’s more, in 2016, he bagged a Mercury Prize - a milestone for hip-hop culture.
