CD launch: 'Man Mountain'
A 'man-mountain' is a very big burly guy and, even though we'd not directly link that with Sioen from Ghent, there is something very powerful concealed in the new album. Something strong, honest and straight forward. Tracks with an own identity, from a personal story. Songs like mountains.
For his 6th album, Sioen headed into the studio without rehearsing but bearing tight demos, relying on the experience & sound of producer Frederik Segers (Stadt) and band members like drummer Pieter De Wilde (Raketkanon), bassist PJ Seaux (Hydrogen Sea), guitarist Tom Goethals (Barbie Bangkok) & keyboard player Jan Roelkens (ex-Arsenal). A singer-songwriter flanked by a strong band.
The result 'Man Mountain', harbours pop/rock-songs with a new sound. Primal sounds meet fresh arrangements, of which sparing use is made so that room remains for imagination and 'melancholy with a smile'. So it's Sioen as you have known him for years, but as you have never previously heard.
